Bio

Dennis Luquet enters his seventh season as the head baseball coach at Diablo Valley College, bringing more than 35 years of coaching experience across baseball and softball. Since the return from COVID in 2021, Luquet has elevated the DVC baseball program to consistent postseason success, including state playoff appearances in 2023 and 2025. Under his leadership, 32 players have earned scholarships to four-year colleges, eight have received NCAA Division I scholarships, and two have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. His most notable alum, Jesse Scholtens, is currently pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Luquet previously served as DVC’s head baseball coach during the 2012–2013 season, recruiting a class that sent 14 players on to four-year institutions; 11 continued their baseball careers, and three were drafted and went on to play professionally. Luquet also spent five highly successful seasons as the Head Softball Coach at DVC. In his first year, he led the program to a dramatic turnaround—from an 11–25 record to a 32–11 finish and a berth in the Big 8 Conference Championship game. His softball teams made the CCCAA State Playoffs, earned top-10 regional and statewide rankings, and sent 25 student-athletes to four-year universities. During his tenure, the Vikings improved in every major statistical category while producing All-State, All-American, and All-Conference talent. He was also the 2015 Big 8 Conference Coach of the Year runner-up.

Before joining DVC, Luquet was a highly respected high school coach, serving 17 seasons as the head baseball coach at Deer Valley High School. He led the Wolverines to the North Coast Section playoffs in 16 of his 17 years, never recorded a losing season, and compiled a career record of 269–123. Deer Valley won the 2003 North Coast Section Championship and 15 Bay Valley Athletic League titles under his leadership. Thirteen of his players were drafted by Major League Baseball—including first-round pick Daniel Denham—and 19 earned Division I scholarships. Luquet was named Contra Costa Times Coach of the Year in 1998.

As a player, Luquet starred at Northern Illinois University (1976–1977), where he was a two-time Team Most Valuable Player. A Concord, California native and graduate of Ygnacio Valley High School, he was a four-year varsity starter, three-time All–Contra Costa Times selection, and an All-State honoree. He began his collegiate career at Diablo Valley College under Hall of Fame coach Ernie Cecaci, earning MVP honors in 1975 before being drafted in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2000, he was selected to the Diablo Valley College Baseball All–Half Century Team as an infielder.

Coach Luquet resides in Walnut Creek, California with his wife, Marianne. He has two children: his son Gared, an artist and volleyball coach in Tennessee, and his daughter Caitlin, Associate Athletic Director at the University of California San Diego.
