Women's Water Polo finish season at 3C2A State Championships, losing to Long Beach, 19-4
The Diablo Valley College women's water polo team wrapped up postseason play on Thursday afternoon, taking on a powerful Long Beach squad at Merced. The Vikings opened the match with early momentum but ultimately fell, 19–4.
DVC came out firing in the first quarter, jumping ahead 2–0 thanks to back-to-back goals from Brianna Smyth and Alenea Loera. Long Beach responded quickly and relentlessly, scoring seven straight to close the period and take control of the game.
In the second quarter, Smyth continued to lead the Vikings' offense, adding two more goals—both assisted by Regan Braga—to complete a hat trick. Despite DVC's efforts to chip away, Long Beach maintained its pace and carried an 11–4 advantage into halftime.
The Vikings battled throughout the second half but were held scoreless as Long Beach extended its lead with a balanced attack. Diablo Valley's defense held firm early, but Long Beach capitalized on open-water opportunities to pull away.
