Bio
Coach Trisha Quan has been coaching for over 20 years at all levels; youth club, high school, college club, community college, and in the WWPA Conference. She uses her own experiences as a goalkeeper to contribute as a defensive specialist and concentrates on fundamentals, game strategy and water polo IQ.
A Marin County native, Coach Quan graduated from Terra Linda High School in 1999, where she competed on the inaugural girls’ varsity water polo team, the soccer team and the swim team. As a sprinter, she helped the TLHS swim team to a league title in 1997. Among the 3 sports, Quan earned 8 varsity letters, earned water polo All-league honors and NCS Distinguished Scholastic Team honors all four years. Additionally, for water polo, she earned All-section honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. Quan was also named as the Marin County Athletic League Player of the year for water polo her senior year.
In her youth Quan also competed for the Marin Water Polo Club with whom she participated yearly in national tournament such as Junior Olympics and the Hawaiian Invitational. As well as local tournaments throughout the Bay Area and California.
Coach Quan continued her water polo career at the University of California, Davis, playing under legendary coach Jamey Wright while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. Quan began her coaching career during this time, helping coach Davis Senior High School to 2 section championships in 2002 and 2003.
After UC Davis, Quan’s educational studies led her to Texas Tech University Health Science Center. Here, she continued her passion for water polo by taking the role of coach-player for the TTU club water polo team. Quan graduated in 2006 with a Master of Science degree, with honors, in Athletic Training.
Coach Quan remains active in the water polo community playing with the Cap City Peacock Masters Water Polo Club who compete annually at the USA Masters Water Polo tournament, as well as other local and statewide competitions. Coach Quan competed and earned a 3rd place finish in this year’s USA Water Polo Master’s Nationals Championship Tournament.
Since taking over the team, Coach Quan has already shaped the team to be formidable force in the Big 8 Conference. Putting the top teams in the conference on notice and challenging other top teams in the Nor Cal region.
As a 3C2A women’s water polo coach, Quan helped lead teams to 12 Coast Conference Championships: 12 Northern California Regionals appearances and 2 State Tournament qualifications. Under her guidance, goalkeepers have transferred to play with programs at University of Hawaii, UCLA, Santa Clara, and Iona. While field players have gone on to play at programs at Monterey Bay State University, Indiana, UC Davis, Concordia, Oregon, San Jose State and more.
Coach Quan aims to continues the tradition of success that the Diablo Valley College water polo program has built. Coach Quan believes in the importance of growth at all levels, in sport, academics and life. She commits to guiding student-athletes through the process of becoming stronger water polo players and better members of the community. Off the pool deck, Coach Quan can be found spending time with her dog, Luna, playing pickleball, or in the pool playing herself.
