Vikings split with Falcons on first day of conference play

The DVC Softball team began 2019 Big 8 Conference play over the weekend vs. Folsom Lake College.

Game One: L, 3-4

Vikings got things moving in the second inning when Chelsea Mari hit a solo homer. From there, it was all Falcons, who away for good with four runs in the fourth inning.

Summer Throne took the loss for Vikings. She allowed nine hits and four runs over six innings, striking out two and walking one.

Alexis Esparza went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Vikings in hits.

Folsom Lake College racked up nine hits in the game. 

Game 2: W, 6-3

Vikings took home a 6-3 victory over Folsom Lake College on Saturday.

Vikings opened up scoring in the second inning, when Alexis Esparza to hit into a fielder's choice and one run scored.

In the fourth Rebecca Walsh singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run and Mariah Schuchart singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Summer Throne earned the victory in the circle for Vikings. She allowed nine hits and three runs over six and two-thirds innings.  

Schuchart threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.  Schuchart recorded the last out to earn the save for Vikings.

Vikings tallied nine hits on the day.    

Schuchart and O'Rourke each managed two hits to lead Vikings.
