The Vikings struggled in their first game after the holiday break, dropping a 73-41 decision at home to American River College. Diablo Valley got off to a decent start and held a slim 11-8 lead after the opening quarter, but the second quarter proved to be the turning point.
DVC was outscored 25-10 in the second period and went into halftime trailing 33-21. From there, the offense never found its rhythm. The Vikings scored exactly 10 points in each of the final three quarters and had difficulty keeping up with ARC's scoring and pressure defense.
As a team, Diablo Valley shot just 29-of-78 from the field and did not get much production from long range, finishing 0-for-3 from beyond the arc. Turnovers were also an issue, as DVC committed 18 on the afternoon.
Sierra 103, Diablo Valley 23
Diablo Valley faced a very difficult night on the road at Sierra College, falling 103-23 in Rocklin. The Vikings were overwhelmed early and never able to settle into the game.
DVC scored 7 points in the first quarter and managed only 5 in the second, trailing 51-12 at halftime. The second half brought more of the same, with Diablo Valley held to single digits in every quarter and just 2 points in the final period.
Offensively, the Vikings were limited to only a handful of field goal attempts and were unable to get anyone into double figures. Sierra's defensive pressure forced 17 Diablo Valley turnovers and kept DVC from generating clean looks.
