Football defeats No. 8 Fresno City Rams, 10-3 in season opener
Diablo Valley opened its 2025 football season with a statement win on the road, grinding out a 10–3 defensive battle over Fresno City College.
The Vikings struck first late in the opening quarter when kicker Adrian Guzman drilled a 25-yard field goal to cap an early drive. Fresno responded just before halftime with a 51-yard kick to even the score at 3–3, but Diablo Valley quickly set the tone after the break.
Midway through the third quarter, DVC put together its most impressive drive of the night, marching 78 yards in nine plays. The possession was fueled by a steady ground attack from Ferrari Miller, who finished it himself with a 2-yard touchdown run. Guzman's extra point pushed the Vikings ahead 10–3, a lead the defense would not relinquish.
Miller was the workhorse all evening, carrying the ball 28 times for 178 yards and controlling the tempo behind a strong offensive line. Quarterback Kalani McCleod managed the passing game efficiently, completing 20 of 26 passes for 222 yards, while Miles Dixon (9 catches, 131 yards) and Khai Taylor (6 catches, 75 yards) provided big plays in the air.
The Viking defense turned in a gritty performance, holding Fresno to just 213 total yards and shutting them out in the second half. Aaron Woodard came up with a key interception return of 33 yards, and Lemaj Roach anchored the unit with eight tackles, including a sack. DVC's front line tallied three sacks and kept constant pressure on Fresno's quarterback, sealing the victory.
With the win, No. 19 Diablo Valley improves to 1–0, showcasing a balanced offense and a defense that stiffened in key moments. The Vikings return home next week looking to build on their strong start.
