No. 7 Vikings Power Past Foothill to Improve to 7-1
Pleasant Hill, Calif. — Diablo Valley defended Viking Stadium on Friday night with a 28–17 victory over Foothill, highlighted by a dominant ground attack and key defensive stops to secure their seventh win of the season.
Running back Ferrari Miller set the tone early, exploding for touchdowns on runs of 49 yards and 18 yards in the first quarter to put the Vikings on top 14–3. Miller finished with 163 rushing yards on 22 carries, averaging 7.4 per attempt and controlling the tempo for the DVC offense.
Just before halftime, quarterback Kalani McLeod delivered a momentum-swinging strike to Khai Taylor on a 29-yard touchdown, sending the Vikings into the break up 21–10. McLeod capped off the night going 14-of-26 for 204 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Foothill closed the gap to one score early in the fourth, but the Vikings responded immediately. McLeod found Jake Calcagno in the back of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown to restore a two-possession advantage with 8:12 remaining — a lead the defense would not allow to slip away.
On the other side of the ball, DVC's defense continued its strong season with three sacks, eight tackles for loss, and six pass breakups, including standout performances from Ananias Walker, Santino Acevedo, and Wesley Garton, each finishing with eight total tackles. Walker added a sack and three pass breakups to anchor the unit.
With the win, Diablo Valley improves to 7–1 overall and 2–1 in conference play, continuing to build momentum heading into the home stretch of the season.
The Vikings return to action next week at Laney, as conference play continues — and the chase for postseason positioning heats up in Pleasant Hill.
